If your connection is like mine the fiber terminates in an ONT with Ethernet from that running into their gateway. You need that to provide you with your Internet address. No, you can't use 2 modems / gateways. You can put your own router behind the AT&T Gateway router they supply to improve overall Wi-Fi experience. All you need is a powered Ethernet switch. Have the ont cable go into the powered switch. Fire up up att modem/router which is connected to switch, wait for all green lights go into settings and copy the MAC address. Assign your router of choice the same MAC address. Unplug att router from switch and plug in your router.I have ATT Fiber 1000 and haven't had many issues.
